• Ebook Reader Reviews: Which eBook Reader Should You Buy?

The only thing I love more than a new techno gadget is a new book, so I happily started researching my newebook reader – something I was sure to hold dear to my heart for years to come.

The more I looked online and the more ebook reader reviews I read, though, the more I found product comparison charts that left me feeling confused. That’s not because there was too little information. It’s because there was too much information on a variety of products that are really quite similar.

The truth is, many of the ebook readers on the market today offer similar features: Most have a good display, which is visible even in sunlight (unlike most cell phones and laptops.) Some have touchscreens while some have keypads, some have slightly larger screens. Some hold more books than others.

But there are a few features that set handheld ebook readers apart when you are askig yourself "Which eBook Reader?" During my research, I decided that the most important features to consider are the following:

    * The price of the device. This is a big business these days, and we’ve found models that range from $199 to $859. More expensive doesn’t always mean better, and you want to pay only for those features you’ll use.

    * The price and selection of available books. Some ereaders even allow you to read newspapers, magazines, blogs and pdfs. Make sure the model you choose does this, if that’s important to you. You can easily find free books for your device, as well, though it has been my experience that these free selections sometimes lack the formatting and ease of navigation (through a linked table of contents, for example) that the other books offer.

    * Ability to change font size and make highlights and annotations. If you are the type that likes to bookmark, highlight and make notes in the margin, you want to make sure you can do that with your electronic books, too. And make sure that the device you buy makes the book searchable. This is one of my favorite ereader features. At book club, for example, I can search for and find the exact quote I want from the book. I can’t do that with my paper books.

    * Wireless connectivity. The reason I eventually chose the Kindle is mostly due to its wireless connectivity and the ease with which I can download books. I can be sitting on a beach somewhere (or in my car waiting for the kids to finish soccer practice), and I can be browsing amazon for new books to read at the same time. Once I find a book, it will be sent to my device in less a minute. I don’t have to connect via USB port to my laptop or anything like that.

If you choose the Amazon Kindle, you won’t have to pay for wireless connectivity, and you won’t have to go searching for wi-fi hotspots. It’s 3G, and it’s included with no fees or contracts.

Amazon doesn’t generally offer coupon codes for the Kindle, but you can often get free shipping, depending on the promotion in place when you order. Here are the very latest  money-saving kindle promotions:

From Susie: I LOVE my Kindle!
I thought that I might miss holding a real paper book in my hands, turning real paper pages. But I am absolutely in love with this gadget. I love how it holds multiple books, so if I'm waiting for the kids somewhere, I have a wide range of choices to suit my mood: books, blogs, PDFs.

It's very easy to navigate and to find new books, and it holds a charge for a long time. It's easy to highlight text and make notes. Then you can take those highlights and annotations and view, edit, delete or export them.

You can really save money on books, too. Every title I've looked at is $10 and under – even new releases that are available at the bookstore only in hardback.

There are a number of free and very inexpensive books, especially classic literature. My daughter downloaded all the Anne of Green Gables novels in a single package for 99 cents.
